Launch of the new Biotech Talent platform to support industry-specific job matching and retain local talent
In recent years, the Hong Kong SAR Government has been vigorously developing Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub, with life sciences technologies being one of the key focus areas. This year’s Budget stated that the government will support local universities in establishing Life and Health Research Institutes through the Subsidy Programme, promoting cross-university/institutional and multi-disciplinary collaboration. Talent is the key driver for advancing cutting-edge scientific research.
Since 2021/22, the Hong Kong Life Sciences Society (HKLSS) has conducted the “Life Sciences Talent Survey” for four consecutive years. HKLSS recently announced the latest survey results. The findings also compared and analyzed data from the past three survey results, revealing that most respondents remain optimistic about local employment prospects in life sciences. Prologue team once again supported HKLSS in organizing this year’s press conference to present the survey results, advocate policy recommendations, and launch a new job matching platform designated for the sector.

HKLSS recommended that the government strengthen publicity targeting senior-year and graduating students, encourage local and multinational laboratories and pharmaceutical organizations to establish platforms and launch internship programs, and inspire young talent to join the industry. Moreover, HKLSS officially announced the launch of the BioTech Talent, an industry-specific job matching platform, providing tailored academic and employment opportunities for graduates in the biotech field.

Prof. Ken Wong, Executive Director of HKLSS, elaborated that, HKLSS’s development will focus on attracting non-local students to stay and develop their careers in Hong Kong and promoting the city as the top destination for further study, research, and the establishment of innovation and technology companies in the industry. In recent years, the determination of non-local students to stay in the biotech industry has been rising year by year, reflecting the growing effectiveness of the support provided by the government and our organization for life science talent.

HKLSS also explained the necessity of the new job matching platform. After years of communication with the industry, HKLSS noticed that many positions in life sciences and biotech are difficult to find through general job platforms. The survey also showed that both local and non-local students have a strong demand for industry-specific job platforms. Earlier this year, the new platform was opened to 200 members for trial use and received an enthusiastic response. Employers from pharmaceutical companies, biomedical equipment firms, and venture capital companies have registered to use the platform.
